Hi Angie & Zena Yes the dogs are being good-- I was a bit worried about how thy would react but I agree I think they do have a sixth sense and are just lying down next to me rather than trying to sit on me!
I'm sure you weren't really a wimp with the staples, Zena. It doesn't look like a job to be thrilled about! Thanks for the advice about Macrogol.I will look into it as soon as I can I have felt quite poorly and been in bed all morning but hope am over the worst now!! Thinking maybe a stroll to the gate later- but maybe not!
Presume you are still using the lovely stockings? Did you get the tip about getting them on easily? If you have the ones with the little breathy holes for the toes, put a poly bag over your foot, pull the stocking on and slip the bag out through the toe hole Brill!

Do you know anyone with a hot tub? When I had rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder I had access to one and it made doing the exercises SO much easier because the water took much of the strain, and of course the hot water was very therapeutic too. My physio couldn't believe the speed with which I made progress. Just a thought....? Paul Barrett

Hi Julie, hope you are feeling a bit better by now. My days are still up and down. I was so fed up with the bad headaches yesterday that I stopped taking pain meds all together. Still woke up with one this morning but it does seem to be easing now. No I didn't get any trendy stockings at all!! I presume they are to retain swelling and may be prevent blood clots? I did come home with instructions to use an ice pack 3-4 times a day to help swelling, which I still do and I try to do my exercises straight after when they seem easier to do, have not tried heat as Paul suggests but will give it a go. I also came home with daily inj of warfarin to prevent clotting, there was a fortnight of those but I've finished them now, thank goodness, now I know what my little pin cushion feels like I know how you feel wanting to go for a little walk, just makes you feel a bit more normal!! Zena xx

Hi Paul Hope you had a great holiday! I do have access to a Jacuzzi if someone can take me and I am a great believer in hydro therapy however I have been advised to avoid until the wound is completely healed. I will definitely be there as soon as...!
Hi Zena Yes I am feeling better today thanks and not expecting to be running about yet so it's good to hear(though not for you !) that you are still up and down. Yes the support stockings are to prevent blood clots and i'm told I should wear them for 6 weeks! I also have a blood thinning tablet for 6 weeks rather than the warfarin-Easier, though along with all the other meds not without side effects
I didn't get that walk to the gate yesterday but it is a definite plan for today! Hope the rest of your staples come out easily tomorrow
Julie

Holiday was great thanks although week 2 was not so good as I was in pain a lot. The warmth didn't do me as much good as I had anticipated. Or rather, if I had been at home I suspect the pain would have been even worse, I just need to move to Florida. Hah! While we there we saw a condo that was having an open house day so we popped in for a look. 22nd floor - views over Gulf Cpast and 10,000 islands. 4 beds, 4 baths and a cool $2,390,000. Yes you read that right $2.39 million. So, no chance there then..... Paul Barrett

Hello again and thanks Suzanne- yes am improving. Well I got up this morning and had a shower, Poly bag around the knee, changed dressing put back on the beautiful stockings, got dressed and discovered that I am actually almost human again!!
Meanwhile my lovely husband seems to have turned into an angel. Long may it last! Thinking we may get a walk BEYOND the gate today especially as the sun is shining which is an added bonus

Hello Julie, a shower does us the power of good!! I have started doing my morning exercises now as soon as I come out of the shower and it is much easier. Did you manage that walk? I did put my coat on yesterday and walk to the corner of our road, slowly slowly, and not far but it felt good I have had my app to see my surgeon a week on Monday, I will be 4 weeks post op. I'm a bit surprised at how soon it is, thought it would be at least 6 weeks. Last of staples came out much easier, it is nice to be with out them. Am feeling good, and managing well without any pain meds now. Ra is playing up a bit now, but hopefully can get back on infusions soon. Has anyone told you how soon you will be able to return on mtx etc? Keep plodding on slowly, take care, zena xx

Hi Zena It's good to hear you are doing well and managing without pain relief! That little bit of fresh air is good too. I have managed a little walk for the last few days and a weeny bit further each time. I am managing around the house without crutches but don't feel too safe outside without them but it's still early days. Regarding the return to methotrexate the consultant said I could go back on it after a couple of weeks when the risk of infection has gone. I am getting the staples out on Wednesday so thought I would resume meds next week if all is well. Your follow up visit does seem early. Mine is 6 weeks post op. Take care now Julie x

Hi Julie, Hope the staple removal went O.K. today, it certainly feels a lot better without them! I saw the physio this morning, she was very pleased with the movement that I have now. Has booked me in to see someone else next week for the next few exercises, but gave me 2 new ones to be getting on with. She said that I can go with one crutch in the house now but still to use two outside, so don' give them up too soon, although they are a pain in the bum!! At least now, I can carry a cup of tea!! The practice nurse is happy with me now too, she removed my last full dressing this morning but insists that I still keep a small dressing on the bit that was a bit more open. It all looks fine to me, or will do soon. Take care Zena x

Hi Zena and anyone else looking in
The staple removal went well and was easier than my mind had invented! All looks beautiful???!!!? and the nurse was pleased enough to leave it without a dressing. It definitely feels better without them though I am a little bit wary when the mad dogs are around! I will take on board your comments about the crutches Zena ,as I am a bit naughty--though still using two outside! I have a first physio appointment tomorrow so another trip into the outside world-maybe coffee and cake afterwards?! We live in a tiny village with not much going on so any venture beyond has to be an adventure to save me from yet more mind blowing daytime TV!!
Keep smiling folks
Julie

Hello everyone Well I have been doing really well, walking a bit further every day, now without crutches and managing exercises quite well. I still have some pain at night but all in all have been pleased with the way things are going. Today though I have hit a bit of a downer. I had a bad night with the knee and increasingly over the last few days my wrist has become very painful and swollen again. I thought maybe it was because I have been knitting a lot whilst sitting with my knee up but now I am thinking I didn't get back on the Methotrexate quickly enough post-op. I hate being dependent on this nasty drug and my mind often tells me I really don't have this disease nor need to take the drug. So, my own fault I guess for not getting back on it sooner and now I'm paying the price for it. Sorry for the moan but just feeling a bit sorry for myself. It's not like me.
Julie

Julie, please don`t apologise if you moan - you are entitled to!! None of us are fans of MTX, but it`s a case of needs must, and hopefully if you`re taking it now things might calm down with your wrist. Take care, Kathleen x

Ahh Julie I think we all have that 'I haven't got RA' moment at regular intervals. We soon learn though that if we come off our lovely drugs we definitely do have RA. I certainly know it and am not in any way as 'bad' as many on here being in remission and all. Chin up love! (That probably won't hurt too much) Angie x Be yourself - everyone else is taken. XX

sorry to hear you've been struggling,
hope the Methotrexate can start working some magic for you soon, although it will have to build up in your system again.
best wishes,
Suzanne x

thanks Kathleen and Suzanne for your support, And Angie, THAT made me smile You are right my chin doesn't hurt! Usually, like yours, my RA is generally well controlled which as you say gives you those regular moments of 'I haven't really got it' . It's an acceptance thing isn't it So I am back to the wrist splint and upped the painkillers and had to accept it all once again! Love Julie x
